What is Head-to-Head?
In head-to-head fantasy basketball, you’re matched with one other manager each week. You don’t just compare total points — you compete in several stat categories (e.g. points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, three-pointers made). For each category, whoever has the better total that week wins that category. The manager who wins more categories wins the matchup and gets a win on their record. It’s like winning games within the game.
- One opponent per week; you compete in multiple stat categories.
- Win more categories than your opponent to get the W for the week.
- Strategy favours balanced rosters that can compete across all categories.
Categories
Typical categories include: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, three-pointers made, field-goal percentage, and free-throw percentage. League settings define which categories count (often 8 or 9). Strategy involves building a balanced roster that can compete in as many categories as possible. Stacking only scorers might win points but lose rebounds, blocks, and steals — so balance is key.
Season and playoffs
Over the season you accumulate wins and losses from each head-to-head matchup. Standings are based on your win-loss record. Many leagues then run playoffs in the final weeks, where top teams face off in elimination matchups until a champion is crowned. No real money is involved — it’s for fun and competition only.
💡 Tip
- In category leagues, a player who contributes in steals and blocks can be as valuable as a high scorer.
- Check your league’s category list and draft or trade to cover weak spots.
Scoring
Stats are converted using our Scoring System. In head-to-head category leagues, each category is compared separately; the higher total in that stat for the week wins the category. Your league page will show the exact categories and how you’re doing in each one.
